Help Advance the Common Good
The Commonweal Institute is an alliance of independent thinkers leading the public in civic dialogue about our shared values as Americans and a progressive approach to problem-solving. We envision a society in which the advancement of human rights, civil liberties, participatory democracy, justice, strong and caring communities, and a more secure and sustainable future coexist with responsible global capitalism. Our goal is to engage all segments of society in the discovery and creation of a new harmony between private interests and the common good.
Generous support from individuals like you helps us carry out our work.
How You Can Support the Commonweal Institute
CONTRIBUTE ONLINE. Our secure online donation page offers a quick, convenient and safe method for making a contribution using your credit card. There are other advantages to online contributions: it is easy to give a repeating monthly or yearly gift; you can give a gift in honor of another person; and/or your gift can be anonymous.
Make a CASH CONTRIBUTION with a check or credit card, if you prefer to make your donation by mail. Print out and complete our contribution form and send it with your check, money order or credit card information. Our mailing address is on the form.
WIRE TRANSFER from your bank. Before wiring a contribution, please contact us for the necessary wire transfer information that will be needed by your bank.
Give a GIFT OF STOCK OR OTHER SECURITIES. You may claim a tax deduction for the full market value of appreciated stock, bonds, and other kinds of securities that you have held for over a year. Contact us to make arrangements to contribute securities.
Join an EMPLOYEE MATCHING GIFT PROGRAM. Many employers will match charitable donations made by their employees (often on a 2:1 or 3:1 basis). Contact the Human Resources or Public Affairs office where you work to find out if your employer offers such a program. Let them know that the Commonweal Institute is a 501(c)(3) public charity under the rules of the Internal Revenue Service. Send the appropriate paperwork along with your check.
Consider PLANNED GIVING. Name the Commonweal Institute in your Will or Living Trust. You can make a bequest in several ways. For example, you may specify that the Commonweal Institute receive a one-time fixed dollar amount or a percentage of your estate. Contact us to confirm the information you will need when preparing your will.
If you have a FAMILY FOUNDATION or give money through a COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, you can provide a grant to the Commonweal Institute, which is approved as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonpartisan public charity under the guidelines of the Internal Revenue Service.
MAJOR SUPPORTER. If you want to become a major contributor or personally know someone else who might be interested in becoming a major contributor, please call 415-992-5366 and ask for our Development Director, or contact us online. We would appreciate your referral and a personal introduction.
Contributions are tax deductible. We will send you a receipt for tax purposes.
Thank you for your support!
